Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast of 99 degrees, with a extremely dangerous “real feel” of 115 degrees, the Waterloo Junior Open is cancelled for this Wednesday. Despite our best intentions, we cannot allow for safety for kids for a 5 hour round of golf in those conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a excessive heat warning for the next two days. The following is from the advisory: COACHES... TRAINERS... CAMP COUNSELORS AND LIFEGUARDS SHOULD REMAIN ALERT FOR SIGNS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND OR HEAT STROKE. IT WILL BE SO HOT THE NEXT TWO AFTERNOONS THAT THE WEATHER COULD AFFECT ANYONE NO MATTER THEIR AGE OR OVERALL HEALTH. PLEASE CONSIDER POSTPONING ANY ACTIVITIES Earlier today, the Iowa PGA had to call their tournament after nine holes in Des Moines due to the excessive heat. Even providing water and chilled towels to players was not enough to curb the exposure. We are calling the event now in attempt to eliminate travel expenses for those coming in from around the state. We will be working with Waterloo Leisure services to find a potential reschedule date. If we are unable to find one prior to the end of the Junior Tour cut off, refunds will be provided in the next week to all participants. I apologize for the cancellation, however, the safety of our participants is the utmost importance. |
